The Egyptian Underworld
As the sun sets each night, the god Ra begins his journey into the land of darkness that lies beneath the sands: the realm of Duat.
There he must undergo a series of trials and best his immortal foe, Apophis - God of darkness and disorder. Only after emerging victorious may Ra leave Duat and return to the world above.
Each morning, Ra is reborn as the golden scarab Khepri who rolls the morning sun across sky and begins the cycle anew.
DUAT is an abstract strategy game for 2 players that takes less than a minute to learn but many, many hours to master.
When moving a piece forward, it can push any number of pieces immediately in front of it, as long as none of those pieces are facing it.
On your turn you have either 1 or 3 actions - it’s up to you each turn whether you take just 1 or all 3 actions.
These actions can be spent on any of your 3 pieces and they can be any assortment of:
Turn one of your pieces clockwise
Turn one of your pieces counter-clockwise
Move one of your pieces forward in the direction it is facing
As soon as a player manages to push one of their opponent’s pieces off the board, the win and the game is immediately over!
The game of DUAT is intended to be played over several rounds, as each round is typically quite short depending on how quickly players decide on their moves.
For a full “game” of Duat, play until someone has won 3 times, alternating who goes first each round.
When will DUAT become available?
DUAT is still in active production - though the gameplay is finished, we still have some work to do for manufacturing! We hope to have a production copy by early 2025 and to make the game widely available later in 2025.
